How Performance Learning Programmes Work
The big difference that separates The Performance Improvement Programmes from traditional training is that participants bring in real issues from their own jobs to create the medium for the learning. This learning comes from taking action to deliver intended results and improvements back at their workplace. This form of learning is called performance learning. Performance Improvement Programmes or PIP's also have a slightly different outline from traditional training. They usually comprise:
Half Day Briefing Session
Briefing Session
This enables the programme facilitators to discuss with participants the preparatory work they will need to do and what they will need to bring to the workshop in order to act on a particular aspect of their work/job
2-6 Weeks to Prepare
Preparation Time
Then there is a two to six week gap to enable programme participants to complete needed preparations and pull together the materials they need.
1 or 2 day Workshop
Workshop
Then there is a one to two day workshop during which participants will get micro briefings on core skills and the opportunity to use them on crucial aspects of their work
1-6 Months to Take Action and Deliver Results
Action Time
Then there is a period of two weeks to three months during which participants actually take the actions that were planned during the workshop to deliver the results intended. During this period participants usually work in a co-consulting / co-coaching arrangement or use a learning in action network and have access to programme facilitators should that be needed
Consolidation and Mainstreaming Workshop
Results
Finally participants are pulled together either for a single module or for a whole set of modules to carry out a consolidation workshop during which they present what they did, how they did it, what results they achieved, what they are going to do next and what they learned… preferably to a panel of senior managers from their own organisation
Presentation to Senior Managers
Recognition
For those that want it accreditation is also available by simply pulling together the live working materials and evidence that they have created by delivering excellence in a particular area of their work and assembling a portfolio which is assessed for completeness and signed off so that individuals can receive an accreditation
All Levels And Specialisms At Once
One of the unique benefits of these programmes is that you can invite from your most senior to your most junior managers and professional leaders to the same workshop. Also, unless it is an Organisation Development Team Building Workshop you can invite people from any specialism, directorate, division or team to the same workshop. This is because each person is working on their own work agenda. There are great benefits from this unique feature:
- During a workshop it is hugely helpful to be able to understand the perspective of those above alongside and below you in the organisation. This gives a much greater 360 ? insight. It also enables participants to build much stronger plans.
- After a workshop it leaves in place a cross organisation and cross hierarchy active relationship, learning, collaboration and success network from which results continue to flow adding yet more to the return on investment for your organisation
You Can Run This Yourselves
Perhaps the most powerful element of the Performance Improvement Programmes for organisations is that you can use your own managers and staff to deliver all the modules for your own organisation.
We'll explain exactly how - When you get delivery of a module or a programme we provide you with a complete trainer's manual explaining exactly how each programme, each module and each of its elements work. This is complete with any slides or flip charts which may be useful along the way as well as a full set of participant's handouts.
Buy only time you need - All you would need to buy from us would be any time you needed to get the programme up and running.
Economical to introduce - So, for instance if you already have fully skilled management and leadership trainers who are used to delivering programmes, they can simply attend a brief training and then get on to deliver a programme. They can contact us if they are unclear about specific elements or if issues arise for which they would like to discuss handling strategies.
We can deliver the first one or two programmes if you want us to. What we often find is that in each programme there are one or two individuals who are really excellent at whatever result area that particular module is looking at. This enthusiasm plus a little bit of insight in how to run a module often enables a leader who has been a participant to lead subsequent modules.
Develop Your Internal Trainers - In all programmes that we deliver we like to identify internal trainers as quickly as possible as this makes the continued running of the programme for all new mangers a sustainable proposition for your organisation.
Set up your own competitive call off contract - Any time you may need from us can be agreed within the context of a competitive call off contract so that you know exactly what our time would cost should you need it.
